What/When/Where
On Monday, June 10th, 2013 the Max Lacewell Foundation will host The 2013 Max Lacewell Foundation “Best Day Evuh” Golf Tournament at Bolingbrook Golf Club, one of the premier golf courses in Chicago. The Bolingbrook course, designed by Arthur Hills and Steve Forrestt, includes one of the ten toughest holes in the Chicago area, hole 5, a 600 yard par 5 “beast”. We will start the event with a to-go picnic lunch followed by a challenging day of golf that will be capped off with a cocktail reception, silent auction, and a gourmet BBQ awards dinner.
Who
We are planning to have 144 golfers participate, which will include corporate sponsors, business leaders, and other distinguished guests.
Why
DIPG (Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma) is typically diagnosed in children between the ages of 5 – 10. 90% of children with DIPG will die within the first year of diagnosis; fewer than 2% will make it beyond 18 months. The last advancement in DIPG therapy was the introduction of radiation, more than 30 years ago. A fact that is both surprising and heartbreaking is that less than 3% of public and private funding is allocated toward all of pediatric cancer research; DIPG receives a fraction of that amount.
The 2012 event was a tremendous success. We had a great day of golf and The Max Lacewell Foundation raised over $70,000 for pediatric brain tumor research! The money raised helped The Max Lacewell Foundation write a $100,000 check to Ann and Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital in Chicago which enabled us to establish The Max Lacewell Brain Tumor Research Award.
